Take Back the Night

Take Back the Night is a public event that demands action against gender-based violence that forces people to live in fear. This annual international event is a great opportunity to rediscover our voice and our right to safety.

The idea behind the event is quite simple: women are invited to walk in downtown Moncton at night to "take back the streets". We use an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female” and we welcome trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people. This is an evening dedicated to us, to overcome fear and the fear of walking alone at night.

Men are invited and welcome to participate in the event. We ask that they be present as support, but stand further behind in the group as we march.

The purpose of the event is to walk in order to "reclaim the street" and claim the right to live without being in fear of sexual violence, and finally, to denounce sexualization in the public sphere and its role in the preservation of this violence.
